Arteta Praises ‘More Reliable’ Squad and Reveals Havertz Injury Blow.

Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence that his squad can keep managing with injury setbacks following revealing that attacker Kai Havertz remains out for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The German forward has been absent since August due to an operation on his knee. Originally slated to come back at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player faced a hurdle when increasing his recovery and failed to reach “the next phase.”

“Our experience helped us build a squad that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” Arteta said.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This development presents a dilemma for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position on Sunday, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return from a muscle injury off the bench. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is also in contention post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Linger

More doubts surround centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. Therefore, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to continue in the backline for the table-toppers.

Arteta believes the substantial investment on reinforcements ahead of this season has resulted in a more robust situation to deal with such unavailability.

Squad Depth Vital for Premier League Pursuit

When asked if increased squad depth was helping their title quest, the manager agreed. “Indeed, because this season has been worse in some areas, and now the problems with the backline,” he noted.

“History has shown us that we must deploy players in different positions, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we aim to challenge at the top. And the example of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Star

Speaking about the setback previously mentioned by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided further detail. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the next level and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to welcome him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, Havertz is someone that, in my view, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I watch him struggle while sidelined.”
