Preamble

Forest vs Malmö and past encounters. The two clubs have a historical link, also meeting in Forest's most recent continental tour in the mid-90s European competition, but it is the premier competition final 46 years ago that connects these teams, with Britain's first £1m player Francis netting the decisive goal of a largely forgettable match to clinch eternal glory for the red half of Nottingham.

"Brian Clough and Peter Taylor, unassuming and low-key amid all the excitement and joy, stood for a moment on a bench calmly observing the mafficking," wrote the match reporter. Their achievement was an extraordinary accomplishment that it is hard to see being repeated – from Second Division to European football in just three years."

Worth mentioning to pause a little on Malmö, who became the pioneering and only Scandinavian side to advance to the ultimate game under English manager Bob Houghton.

This match is a distant from that pinnacle, closer perhaps to the earlier European encounter between Forest and Malmö in that era. Forest are absolutely buzzing after beating Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield on Saturday, while Malmö have been inactive since 9 November following the conclusion of their domestic campaign. The popular prediction is on the home team tonight.

Plenty of other action on offer in this live coverage. The Scottish side have already been lost to a Braga this season. Rangers are at the foot of the 36-team Europa League standings at the middle of the group stage with exactly zero. They desperately need a victory if they are to have any chance of achieving a recovery for a qualification place.

We'll keep you up to date with all the late games and provide the current standings from the earlier matches, including Aston Villa v Young Boys and the Dutch-Scottish clash.
