Pep Guardiola Voices Remorse Over Camera Operator Incident Following Loss to Newcastle

Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" following a confrontation with a TV crew member subsequent to the Citizens' loss away to the Magpies on Saturday.

When the match concluded, an emotional Guardiola stepped onto the field and engaged in intense talks with match official Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the headphones of the camera operator.

"I said sorry," the manager remarked. "I'm humiliated, regretful, when I see it. I don’t like it. I apologised after one second to the operator. That's just me. With a thousand matches under my belt I'm far from perfect, errors happen."

"What is for sure, I stand by my team and club, without a doubt. The reason why I support my squad is no doubt – because from my experience to win the Premier League we need near-perfect totals, high nineties, or we fall short."

Team Standing and Guardiola's Assessment

The team sits in third and are seven behind the Gunners following their fourth loss of the season. "Four defeats in twelve matches means we must do better," Guardiola admitted. "Technically, we can still achieve all."

The manager was asked if this meant the quadruple could be achieved, Guardiola answered: "You are an experienced journalist, did you hear my talk about the quadruple in December during our historic run? No."

Exchange with Bruno

On the subject of his talk with Guimarães, the coach explained: "We have known Bruno for many years and every time after the game, home or away, we converse. We often meet and we get along well. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I love to talk and move my hands."

Guardiola would not be concerned should a rival coach spoke to his players right after the final whistle. "No - as long as it's respectful as I do, it's fine," he noted, mentioning the referee. "He was part of it throughout the match, he was involved. My God, he was involved."

Controversial Decisions

City were unhappy that Barrott or the VAR did not award City a penalty for a Fabian Schär challenge on Phil Foden, and doubted Bruno's positioning when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Subsequent images show he was level.

Upcoming Milestone

He will manage of his 100th Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. "That's impressive, showing we compete we have been there," he commented.

The club has ten points after four games of the league phase, while Leverkusen have five.
